    How to Choose

    Sizing Your DAF System

The right system size depends on three primary variables. Here is how to think about each one — and why laboratory analysis is always the definitive starting point.

    Flow Rate

Your peak daily flow rate is the primary sizing variable. Size your DAF for peak flow — not average — to ensure the system can handle seasonal or shift-based surge conditions without overloading the flotation zone.

    • › Measure peak hourly flow, not daily average
    • › Account for cleaning-in-place (CIP) surge flows
    • › Consider future capacity expansion needs
    • › Ask us about equalization tank options

    Solids Loading

TSS concentration, FOG levels, and suspended solids characteristics determine how much float sludge your system generates per day and how aggressively the skimmer must operate. High-solids streams need more recycle volume and larger sludge handling capacity.

    • › TSS concentration (mg/L) is critical for design
    • › FOG content drives chemical dosing requirements
    • › Sludge volume affects downstream handling needs
    • › Our lab analysis quantifies all of these

    Effluent Target

Your discharge permit's effluent requirements determine system configuration. Stricter TSS, FOG, or BOD limits may require higher recycle ratios, longer contact zones, polishing filtration, or chemical-enhanced primary treatment upstream of the DAF.

    • › Share your permit limits at project kickoff
    • › We design to your limits — not generic targets
    • › Polishing filtration available for tight limits
    • › Documentation for compliance submittals included
